Hop On Pop

This is a basic Sierra Nevada Pale Ale clone, with minor
modifications to suit my brewing style. I did dry hop with 1 oz
of Cascade into the secondary, although it would be good without
it.

Brewer: David Kessner Email: davidk@free-ip.com
Beer: Hop On Pop Style: American Pale Ale
Type: Partial mash Size: 5.5 gallons
Color:
10 HCU (~7 SRM)
Bitterness: 33 IBU
OG: 1.057 FG: 1.013
Alcohol: 5.6% v/v (4.4% w/w)
Water: I forgot to use Gypsum on this one, but things turned out fine.
Grain: 5 lb. American 2-row
.5 lb. American crystal 40L
.5 lb. Dextrine malt (Cara-Pils)
Mash: 65% efficiency
I put the grains into 1.75 gallons (7 quarts) of cold water and
heated it up to 152° F. Held at 152° for 60 minutes. Sparged with
1.5 gallons at 170° F.
Boil: 60 minutes SG 1.104 3 gallons
3.75 lb. Light dry malt extract
Added Irish Moss for last 15 minutes of boil.
Hops: 1.5 oz. Perle (8.3% AA, 60 min.)
1.5 oz. Cascade (6.5% AA, 15 min.)
.5 oz. Cascade (6.5% AA, 5 min.)
.5 oz. Perle (8.3% AA, 5 min.)
Yeast: Used Wyeast American Ale, pitched into a 1 quart starter two days
before brewing. I pitched only the sediment from the starter
(top wort was drained off before pitching).
Log: Fermented at about 65° F. 7 days in primary. 11 Days in secondary.
Added 1 oz of Cascade into secondary (optional).
Carbonation: Primed with 3/4 cup corn sugar.
Tasting: Tastes like expected-- a dry hopped Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. Nice.
The dryhopping worked out great. It added a very noticeable but not
overwhelming hop aroma. Color and clarity were right on.
