Nut Bag Ale
This is our first run at homebrewing! Hope it all turns out good. Any suggestions would be welcome! See boiling notes for the reason for the name of the brew (funny story).

Boiled 3 gal. water, took off heat, added malt extracts, and stirred until dissolved. Put back on heat & boiled 40 minutes. Added hop pellets in my wife's Nut Milk Bag (which I mistakenly called a Nut Bag at the homebrew shop which brought forth gails of laughter - thus the name) and allowed it to steep for 10 minutes. Took wort off heat and continued to steep hops for another 5 minutes while trying to figure out how to cool wort. Poured wort into fermentor with 2 additional gallons of cold water. Had to wait until evening until it was cool enough to pitch the yeast.
Hops: | 1 oz. Fuggles (4.75% AA, 10 min.)
Yeast: | Nottingham Brewing Yeast. Rehydrated near the end of the boil, but had to cover it until that evening when it was cool enough.
Log: | Brewed 7/5/03, bottled 7/14/03 Brew will probably have a higher IBU considering the Cooper's extract is hopped. |
|||||||
Carbonation: | 3/4 cup priming sugar boiled in 16 oz. of water.
Tasting: | At bottling time, it tasted promising for our first time! |
