Tasting: | Opening a bottle one week after capping revealed a copper-colored, slightly cloudy, and under-carbonated brew. Taste was acceptable and about as expected after tasting the wort, which had a taste somewhat like an extremely strong and extremely sweet cup of Earl Grey tea. However, the overall impression of the bottled product was not very "cohesive." The beer was very hoppy with a pleasant grapefruity aroma, very malty with a distinct note of caramel, and very alcoholic in the lingering burn of the aftertaste and in the nose, but these notes did not hang together very well. The beer needs age, which will hopefully help the flavor come together some. Generally pleased with the results given the simplicity of the recipe. |
