Grandma Phicketts Mudfence Porter

11/01/03- brewed today off of old recipe from porter i made 10 years ago. this is only the 2nd batch of beer ive made since i started brewing again. 10 years, long break.

Beer: Grandma Phicketts Mudfence Porter Style: Robust Porter
Type: Extract w/grain Size: 5 gallons
Color:
193 HCU
Bitterness: 25 IBU
OG: 1.068 FG: 1.016
Alcohol: 6.7% v/v (5.3% w/w)
Water: Good old fashioned Dallas Tap water.
Grain: 1 lb. British crystal 135-165L
1 lb. British chocolate
Steep: Steep grains in water for 30 min before bringing up to 150. Remove from heat and steep for another 30 minutes before discarding. Might sparge next time.
Boil: 90 minutes SG 1.114 3 gallons
8.5 lb. Dark malt extract
Added whirlfloc at 15min substitue for irish moss
Hops: 1 oz. Northern Brewer (8.5% AA, 60 min.)
.5 oz. Northern Brewer (8.5% AA, 30 min.)
.5 oz. Fuggles (4.75% AA, 15 min.)
Yeast: pitchable english ale yeast
