Mike's Dark Porter
I was pleased the way this beer turned out,it taste a little like Guiness Stout after 2 weeks conditioning. Nice head very dark and not sweet, but not overly bitter.

OG: | 1.056 | FG: | 1.015 | |||||
Alcohol: | 5.3% v/v (4.2% w/w)
Water: | 1 tsp of gypsum pre-boil, my water is soft. 3 gallons were distilled water and the 2 gallons in the brew pot were tap water.
Grain: | 8 oz. American chocolate 8 oz. American black patent |
|||||||
Steep: | Steeped the chocolate and black patent cracked grains from the cold point just until pre boil about 20 minutes.
Boil: | 55 minutes | SG 1.056 | 5 gallons
3.3 lb. Amber malt extract 3.3 lb. Light dry malt extract |
||||||||
Hops: | 1.5 oz. Cascade (6% AA, 60 min.) 1 oz. Hallertauer (aroma) |
|||||||
Yeast: | A good dry ale yeast
Log: | After 4 days I racked into a carby and mixed in 1 tsp. of knox gelatin mixed it into a cup of boiling water, and then allowed that to cool to 70 degrees, and then mixed it into the beer. This coagulated the sediment at the bottom, with no taste, so when I did the final rack into the bottling bucket there was less sediment pickup into the siphon hose. This made for a bottled beer that had very little sediment on the bottom.
Tasting: | Wouldn't change anything, I really like this beer. |
