Simple to make, good taste. Based on the Toad Spit Stout from TCJHB.

Steep: | Put grains in cold water, brought to boil, and let boil 5 min. prior to removing. |

Boil: | 65 minutes | SG 1.217 | 1.5 gallons | |||||
3.3 lb. Dark malt extract (Munton & Fison) 4 lb. Dark dry malt extract |

8 tsp. gypsum added to boil. 2 tsp. Moss added to final 15. | ||||||||
Hops: | 1.5 oz. Bullion (8.5% AA, 60 min.) .5 oz. Bullion (8.5% AA, 5 min.) |

Yeast: | At the time, was using dry yeast; used Edme ale yeast; would likely get better results with liquid yeasts. |

Log: | 9-1-91: brewed. 9-23-91: racked. 10-13-91: racked again and bottled. |

Carbonation: | 3/4 c. priming corn sugar. | |||||||
Tasting: | Bitter-sweet chocolate undertones. nice beer. It may be just my imagination, but I thought that boiling the specialty grains instead of just steeping them added something to this beer. (Also, next time, I wouldn't leave it on the trub so long.) |
