Terminator Stout
Supposedly an award winning recipe. Got it from a homebrew shop, so I thought I would try it.
Brewer: | Bret Spencer | Email: | -
Beer: | Terminator Stout | Style: | Irish Dry Stout
Type: | Extract w/grain | Size: | 5 gallons
Color: |
|
Bitterness: | 26 IBU | |||||
OG: | 1.057 | FG: | 1.011 | |||||
Alcohol: | 5.9% v/v (4.6% w/w)
Water: | I added 1 tsp. of Gypsum to bottled water in the boil.
Grain: | 4 oz. Wheat malt 8 oz. American crystal 120L 4 oz. American chocolate 4 oz. American black patent 12 oz. Roasted barley |
|||||||
Steep: | I put the grains in a nylon grain bag. Added the bag to the cold bottled water. Brought the water up to 150° slowly, then let the grains steep for about 30 minutes at that temp, then removed the grains.
Boil: | 60 minutes | SG 1.142 | 2 gallons
7 lb. Dark malt extract | ||||||||
As a habit I added a tsp of Irish Moss to the end of the boil. But, afterwards I thought it was silly. This has the look of used motor oil, why bother using a clarifying agent?
Hops: | 2 oz. Bullion (8.5% AA, 60 min.)
Yeast: | Used pitchable White Labs Irish Stout Yeast
Log: | Primary Fermentation 5 days at 75°. Secondary for 14 days at 75°.
Carbonation: | Carbonated with honey, about 4 oz.
Tasting: | I don't like Stouts. I made this for my girlfriend who loves them. I'll let you know what she thinks after it is done. |
