Golden Gernade

This was my first try at all-grain brewing with my newly fabricated Gott cooler
mash/lauter tun. It was a minor disaster, but it wasn't the recipe's fault. *grin*

Brewer: John C. Van Hove Email: jvanhove@knology.net

1 lb. 0 oz. Dextrine malt (Cara-Pils)
1 lb. 0 oz. Flaked barley
1 lb. 0 oz. Flaked corn

Boil: 60 minutes SG 1.042 8 gallons
Hops: 0.75 oz. Northern Brewer (8.5% AA, 45 min.)
0.75 oz. Kent Goldings (5% AA, 15 min.)
0.25 oz. Northern Brewer (8.5% AA, 15 min.)
Yeast: 6 gram package of Munton's dry ale yeast
Log: vigorous fermentation just a few hours after pitching
after 5 days in primary, fermentation practically stopped
gravity was 1.022 (high) so racked to secondary
after 5 days in secondary gravity still high (1.020)
decided fermentation was over and kegged (bad call)
Carbonation: 1/2 cup corn sugar
Tasting: Kegged in 5 1.3 gallon minikegs. Kept one and distributed
rest to other club members. Put my keg in the fridge one
week after kegging. Others didn't. Fermentation resumed
in the other four kegs and I started getting calls from
friends who noticed ominous bulges in their kegs. This
batch ruined four kegs, but the fifth turned out pretty
good. Smooth and creamy with a nice stiff head, but
kind of cloudy.
