Rayface IPA
This is my style of IPA. It's got an assertive but clean bitterness and a floral and slightly pungent hop bouquet. It's a bit higher in OG that I was shooting for due to better than expected efficiency, but hey, that's fine with me! Awesome IPA!

Tasting: | Although it would seem that ~80 IBU's would be excessive, the Yakima Magnums give a very clean bitterness, along w/ a spiciness and flavor that works very well with the Santiam and Crystal hops. The hop flavor is quite complex, and is not the one dimensional "citrusy" profile of many IPAs. I really love Magnum & Crystal hops! Match made in heaven. As for the Santiams-- they added a pungency that I never tasted in any other American hop. They added nicely to the hop flavor. The aroma is quite spicy w/ slight citrusy notes. The malt profile of this beer is quite big. The combination of Maris Otter, Munich and Aromatic provides a wonderful base for the hops. It's got "chewy" maltiness. This beer was an absolute success. This is why I love homebrewing. |
