Munchy

This is a beautiful thing. The Safale S-04 yeast has left it brilliantly clear. The Munich has given it a wonderful malty taste. It's bitterer than I intended.

Brewer: Coly Moore Email: colymoore@yahoo.com
Beer: Munchy Style: India Pale Ale
Type: Partial mash Size: 2 gallons
Color:
17 HCU (~10 SRM)
Bitterness: 67 IBU
OG: 1.059 FG: 1.013
Alcohol: 5.9% v/v (4.7% w/w)
Grain: 1 lb. American Munich
4 oz. American crystal 40L
Mash: 87% efficiency
Steep for 30 min between 150° and 160°F in 2 quarts water
Batch sparge at 170°F for 30 min with water to make 2 gallons.
Boil: 60 minutes SG 1.059 2 gallons
2 lb. Light dry malt extract
Hops: 1.5 oz. Cascade (5.7% AA, 60 min.)
.5 oz. Cascade (aroma)
Yeast: Safale S-04. Started fast, attenuated 78%, left beer brilliantly clear. No noticeable taste. I really like this yeast.
Carbonation: Added corn sugar to bottles at a rate equivalent to 1/2 cup per 5 gallons.
Tasting: Great taste already, maybe even better after it has aged and the bitterness has smoothed out more. We'll see.
