Amarillo IPA

Trying out a new hop. The simple grain bill is a
canvas to let (hopefully) the Amarillo hops shine
through. This hop is suppose to be like Cascade
but with a tangerine like flavor instead of the
grapefruit like flavor of Cascade.

Beer: Amarillo IPA Style: India Pale Ale
Type: All grain Size: 12 gallons
Color:
12 HCU (~8 SRM)
Bitterness: 55 IBU
OG: 1.056 FG: 1.011
Alcohol: 5.8% v/v (4.6% w/w)
Water: Approx. 1 Tbls Ca2Cl added to strike sparge water.
Grain: 18 lb. American 2-row
2 lb. CaraMunich II
1 lb. CaraAmber
Mash: 88% efficiency
Dough in, temp. stable at approx. 65°C. Hold about 20
minutes add more water temp stable approx 67°C. Hold 20
min. Use pump to recirculate for about 15 minutes. Sparge
directly into boil kettle using pump.
Boil: 60 minutes SG 1.052 13 gallons
3 whirlflocs at 20 minutes till knockout
Hops: 3 oz. Amarillo (7.5% AA, 60 min.)
1 oz. Amarillo (7.5% AA, 30 min.)
1 oz. Amarillo (7.5% AA, 20 min.)
1 oz. Amarillo (7.5% AA, 10 min.)
2 oz. Amarillo (aroma)
Yeast: Used Wyeast 1084 (Irish ale) from previous batch. Aprox.
200 mls of thick slurry per carboy.
