effed up ipa 2011

Tasty IPA. Though, I actually used Simcoe hops where the recipe calls for Chinook... There's no Simcoe option on this recipator. Chinook was the closest as far as IBU's go, but Simcoe produces a fruitier aroma, similar to Cascade.

.5 oz. Chinook (12% AA, 15 min.)
2 oz. Cascade (aroma)
1 oz. Centennial (aroma)
1 oz. Chinook (aroma)
Yeast: Safale Us-05 Dry Yeast.
The best dry yeast out there for finishing very clean, crisp and dry. Really accentuates the hops.
Used this yeast on an IIPA w/ an o.g. of 1.090 and fermented down to 1.013!
Log: I used all whole leaf hops for the 1st time. I've used whole leaf cascade and chinook for dry hopping/aroma, but never in the boil before. Used a muslin bag.

Just pitched it right in the secondary for the dry hop.

Doesn't really make a difference in the bittering, but real nice for the aroma/dry hop.

And yes, I really did use 4 oz of hops for the dry hop!! I love IPA's that are heavy on the aroma!!

Don't worry, it's still got some good bitterness to help balance out all the bursting aroma!
Primary for 1 week.
Secondary for 2 weeks.
Bottle condition 2 weeks.
Drink up!
Carbonation: 3/4 cups of corn sugar, boiled in 2 cups of water, brought down to 70° and put directly into bottling bucket. That's for each 5 gallon fermentation vessel.(10 gal batch)
So 1 1/2 cups of sugar and 4 cups of water total!
Tasting: Really nice, hoppy IPA. Pretty bitter, but not tongue splitting. Very aromatic. Cascade, Centennial and Simcoe all have great aromatic qualities! Grapefruity, florally & awesome!!
