Far West Irish Red Ale

Very tasty brew that makes it hard to put down your glass.

Type: Extract w/grain Size: 5 gallons
Color:
25 HCU (~14 SRM)
Bitterness: 27 IBU
OG: 1.050 FG: 1.012
Alcohol: 4.9% v/v (3.8% w/w)
Grain: .5 lb. Belgian pale
1.0 lb. American crystal 40L
Steep: Prior to steeping grains, toast .5 # whole uncrushed malt(3°
L) in the oven @350° F for 10 min. Remove from oven and crush/crack malt, then add to 1# of 40° L crushed crystal malt. Add malts to brewpot w/ 1.5 gallons water. Bring up temp to 154° F, let steep for 30 min, strain, sparge.
Boil: 60 minutes SG 1.038 6.5 gallons
6 lb. Amber malt extract
Bring 6.5 gallons(including steeped grain extraction) to boil add extract, Northern Brewers hops.Boil 58 minutes , add Tettnanger hops. At 60 min flameout. Chill
(on occasion I add 2.5# local Clover honey to boil at 50 mins into boil, which kicks up O.G. nicely and adds a lovely flavor to finished beer, warning extremely tasty! 8)~ )
Hops: 1.00 oz. Northern Brewer (7% AA, 60 min.)
1 oz. Tettnanger (aroma)
Yeast: 1084 Irish Ale Yeast (WYEAST)
Carbonation: Force Carbonate @ 25psi
