Home Opener Harvest Ale

A nice simple harvest ale brewed the day of the reigning Super Bowl Champs, Pittsburgh Steelers' 2009 home opener.

I was just given a garbage bag full of nice, fresh Cascades... they will not go to waste.

Beer: Home Opener Harvest Ale Style: American Pale Ale
Type: All grain Size: 5.2 gallons
Color:
19 HCU (~11 SRM)
Bitterness: 57 IBU
OG: 1.054 FG: 1.010
Alcohol: 5.7% v/v (4.5% w/w)
Water: Tap water with 1 TBS 5.2 Mash Stabilizer and 1 tsp gypsum.
Grain: 10 lb. American 2-row
1 lb. American crystal 80L
Mash: 70% efficiency
Mash grains at 153°F for 60 min. Bring to 170°F and rest for 10 min. Fly sparge with 170°F water to collect 6.5 gal in brewpot.
Boil: 60 minutes SG 1.044 6.5 gallons
1 tsp Irish Moss (rehydrated) last 15 minutes.
Hops: 1 oz. Centennial (10.5% AA, 60 min.)
1 oz. Cascade (Wet Homegrown) (6% AA, 30 min.)
2 oz. Cascade (Wet Homegrown) (aroma)
Yeast: White Labs 001 American Ale.
Carbonation: Keg and force carbonate.
