Bear's ESB

first light color beer..my last extract brew! going all grain this
weekend! i'm usually a dark beer drinker but i recently tried and esb
and was pleasantly suprised. i think this one turned out pretty good.
it's going into the secondary saturday.

Beer: Bear's ESB Style: English Strong (Extra Special) Bitter
Type: Extract w/grain Size: 5.5 gallons
Color:
24 HCU (~13 SRM)
Bitterness: 46 IBU
OG: 1.060 FG: 1.016
Alcohol: 5.7% v/v (4.4% w/w)
Water: 2 tsp Gypsum
Grain: 6 oz. Dextrine malt (Cara-Pils)
1 lb. British crystal 50-60L
6 oz. Flaked barley
3 oz. American chocolate
Steep: steep speciality grains at 155°F for 30 minutes. rinsed into already
heating water.
Boil: 75 minutes SG 1.044 7.5 gallons
6.0 lb. Light dry malt extract
.75 lb. Brown sugar
2tsp irish moss last 10 minutes
Hops: 2 oz. Kent Goldings (5.4% AA, 60 min.)
.5 oz. Fuggles (3.4% AA, 45 min.)
.5 oz. Fuggles (3.4% AA, 30 min.)
.5 oz. Fuggles (3.4% AA, 15 min.)
1 oz. Kent Goldings (aroma)
Yeast: wyeast london esb...typical starter method.
Log: brewed 3/26/98.....fermenting in basement with constant temp of 65F.
will rack this weekend to secondary and then transfer to keg and dry
hop with 1oz Kent Golding leaf hops.
Carbonation: 1.3 volumes Keg: 5.1 psi @ 58°F
Corn Sugar: 1.13 oz. for 5 gallons @ 65°F
Tasting: tasted before pitching yeast and thought it was
yummy! i think this will be a great batch of brew!
