Angry Dog Amber

This is a beer that will end up similar to Red Hook ESB.
I have brewed many times with great results including tasting side
by side.

Brewer: M. Reynolds aka I.M. Hammered Brewing Email: marhammer@aol.com
Beer: Angry Dog Amber Style: English Strong (Extra Special) Bitter
Type: Partial mash Size: 5 gallons
Color:
18 HCU (~11 SRM)
Bitterness: 37 IBU
OG: 1.052 FG: 1.013
Alcohol: 5.1% v/v (4.0% w/w)
Grain: 4 lb. American 2-row
1 lb. British crystal 50-60L
Mash: 45% efficiency
I partial mash this quite simply adding grains to 165 degree water at 1.25 quarts per pound. I mash in a pot on the stove so my mash efficiency is low. You may want to adjust base grain depending upon your partial mashing technique and efficiency level to hit target gravity. Mash for 90 minutes at 155 degrees and rinse grains to get 2.75 gallons of wort.
Boil: 60 minutes SG 1.075 3.5 gallons
4 lb. Light dry malt extract
Add dry malt extract and boil for 60 minutes total with hop strikes as indicated. Irish Moss may be used if desired with 15 minutes left in the boil.
Hops: 2 oz. Willamette (5% AA, 60 min.)
1 oz. Tettnanger (4.5% AA, 30 min.)
1 oz. Willamette (aroma)
Yeast: Wyeast 1056 in the smack pak
Log: Primary Ferment at 65 to 70 Degrees for 7 to 10 days. Rack to secondary and condition for 10 to 14 days. Bottle condition for at least 2 weeks. Beer is peak at 6 to 9 weeks in bottle (but who can wait that long).
Carbonation: Carbonation provided by bottle conditioning with 3/4 cup corn sugar or 1.5 cup light dry extract.
Tasting: Taste next to Red Hook and you will be pleasantly surprised. A great session beer as well though it has some level of ABV. I have upped the hops the last couple of times I brewed this to 1 oz from 1/2 oz on the flavor hop strike.
