Barking Spider Session Bitter
I first brewed a "Palace Bitter" from Papazian's "The New Complete
Joy of Homebrewing" 2nd Edition circa 1991 that I got from Half Price
Books in Dallas, TX. It was a good beer, but I felt it was missing body, bitterness, and aroma.
To keep it a session beer, I added 8oz
Dextrin Powder, and substituted 1lb of the Light DME with Amber DME.
I'm a hop-head, and felt it lacked aroma, and bitterness. Increased the hop bill to 2oz each of 4.5% Fuggles, and US Kent Goldings.
I also changed the specialty grains from Crystal 60L to 90L.
Dextrins left over in beer are believed to be a major cause of Beer Farts. Hence the name, "Barking Spider Session Bitter". Wanted a big beer taste/feel that I can drink 2 or 3, and still play effectively
with the kids on the weekend.
