Partial Pale Ale

This is my first partial mash. I decided to
stick to a style that I know well and could survive
a little variability in my extraction efficiency.

Brewer: Doug Gould Email: Maestro_D@hotmail.com
Beer: Partial Pale Ale Style: English Pale Ale
Type: Partial mash Size: 21 liters
Color:
12 HCU (~8 SRM)
Bitterness: 26 IBU
OG: 1.042 FG: 1.010
Alcohol: 4.2% v/v (3.3% w/w)
Water: My brewing water is preboiled and cooled medium-hard tap water, siphoned off precipitate.
Grain: 1.6kg British pale
.3kg American crystal 40L
13g American chocolate
Mash: 66% efficiency
I mashed with a 20 litre pot and small styrofoam
box. 4.5 Litres of 170F brewing water infused into
grain. Temperature stabalised at 158F for 60 minutes.
Sparged with 8l of 170F brewing water.
Boil: 90 minutes SG 1.045 20 liters
1kg Light malt extract
.5kg Light dry malt extract
1/2 tsp Irish Moss added 10 minutes before
the end of the boil.
Hops: 1 oz. Fuggles (4% AA, 60 min.)
1 oz. Fuggles (4% AA, 30 min.)
.5 oz. Fuggles (4% AA, 15 min.)
1 oz. Fuggles (aroma)
Yeast: 2 pkgs of Coopers ale yeast, re-hydrated in 150ml
of 80F brewing water. Yeast pitched into primary
at 70F.
Log: Fuggles hop plugs were used, which was an experiment
for me. (I usually use pellets.) Lots of problems
with clogs in the racking tube. I ended up (gently)
pouring 1/3 of the boil through a collander.

Cooled to 70F with pot immersed in kitchen sink (took 1 hour).
