Imp-OAT-ent Ale
This porter has served me well twice! It goes way to fast. I need to upgrade to 10 gallons.

Water: | Well water. No analysis yet. Boiling water leaves a calcium or carbonate film on the sides of the pot. PH was too high for mash so I added what acid I had - lemon juice.
Grain: | 5 lb. American 2-row 1 lb. Belgian biscuit 1 lb. American crystal 60L 1 lb. American chocolate 1 lb. Flaked oats |
|||||||
Mash: | 65% efficiency | |||||||
Single step infusion at 155° for 90 minutes. Mashout at 170 for 15. Sparge at 170 for 90.
Boil: | 60 minutes | SG 1.068 | 3 gallons
Hops: | .25 oz. Northern Brewer (9% AA, 60 min.) .25 oz. Northern Brewer (9% AA, 45 min.) .5 oz. Cascade (6% AA, 30 min.) |
|||||||
Yeast: | Wyeast 1056. 1 quart starter at 1.020.
Log: | Primary for 10 days. Secondary in 3 gallon corny. Carbonated and server in same corny. First 3 pints had yeast... all good after that. |
|||||||
Carbonation: | 2.5 volumes | Keg: 12.3 psi @ 40°F
Tasting: | Mash runnings had definite lemon flavor. After primary, flavor was a bit strange. Maybe the lemon? After chill and carbonation... quite good. Thick brew from the oats. Interesting tang from the lemon. I like this! |
