Carl's Blizzard Ale
A nice warming brew for those cold winter months.

Water: | Tap water, or filtered water from the supermarket. I use tap because our water is of sufficient quality. | |||||||
Grain: | 4 oz. American chocolate 4 oz. Roasted barley |

Steep: | Place grains in a hop bag, place in kettle with one gallon cold water and heat until just short of boiling and remove bag. | |||||||
Boil: | 60 minutes | SG 1.149 | 2 gallons | |||||
3.3 lb. Dark malt extract 2 lb. Light dry malt extract 1.5 lb. Dark dry malt extract 6 oz. Molasses |

After removing the grains, add dry and liquid malt extracts as well as molasses. Once dry malts are disolved add more water to bring level up to two gallons. Bring to boil and add hop bag. Add the following spices for the final five minutes: 1/2 tsp vanilla extract 1 tsp nutmeg 1-1/2 tsp cinnamon 7 whole cloves When boil is complete, place kettle in an ice bath to cool slightly, then add cooled wort to three gallons of tap water in the carboy. |

Hops: | 2 oz. Northern Brewer (9.3% AA, 60 min.) | |||||||
Yeast: | 1335 liquid yeast. | |||||||
Log: | Pitch yeast at ~68-72 degrees. Keep in the primary for 3-7 days. Transfer to secondary for 3-7 days. Bottle with 4oz of honey and allow to carbonate for 5-10 days. | |||||||
