Old T-34 Motor Oil

A bear of a beer that even a Tzar would enjoy. Made with quality ingredients ... and a couple of drops of motor oil from and old T-34/75c. Na Zdarovja!

Beer: Old T-34 Motor Oil Style: Imperial Stout
Type: Extract w/grain Size: 5 gallons
Color:
163 HCU (~49 SRM)
Bitterness: 31 IBU
OG: 1.094 FG: 1.025
Alcohol: 8.9% v/v (7.0% w/w)
Water: 2 tsp. gypsum
Grain: 8 oz. British chocolate
8 oz. Roasted barley
1 lb. Flaked oats
Steep: Steep all grains for 15 minutes at 170°.
Boil: 60 minutes SG 1.235 2 gallons
6 lb. Amber malt extract
6 lb. Dark malt extract
1 tsp. Irish Moss @ 15 minutes to end of boil
Hops: 2 oz. Chinook (13% AA, 60 min.)
1.5 oz. Eroica (12% AA, 30 min.)
1.5 oz. Willamette (5% AA, 10 min.)
Yeast: 35 ml White Labs WLP004
Log: Fermented 2 weeks at 68°, then bottled. Aged in 16 oz. swing-top bottles for 6 months at 68° before drinking.
Carbonation: 2.0 volumes Corn Sugar: 3.19 oz. for 5 gallons @ 72°F
Tasting: This beer is drinkable at 2 months old, but the truly remarkable flavors come out between 5 and 6 months old. I've never had a batch last much longer past that, and it has become a local favorite.
