Hulk SMaSH
My LHBS had Cascade hops by the pound at a ridiculously low price and I've always wanted to do a big green and angry SMaSH beer.

I dunno, maybe I will, David... Maybe I will.

Spread 2 pounds of uncracked 2 row onto cookie sheets and roast at 400°F for 10-20 minutes, mixing and stirring every couple minutes to avoid burning. When the grain takes on a golden brown hue and begins to smell "toasty", pull it out. Single infusion at 153°F for 60 minutes. Mashout via 1 gallon decoction added to 1 gallon boiling water, brought to boil and reintroduced to mash and held for 10 minutes. Continuous sparge with 170°F water to collect 7.5 gallons in the brewpot. |

Yeast: | Safale US-05 from a previous batch.
Carbonation: | 2.5 volumes | Keg: 12.3 psi @ 40°F
Tasting: | I know that using the toasted malt kind of moves this recipe away from a true SMaSH beer (Single Malt and Single Hop), but with the high gravity and IBU's, I wanted just a little toastiness to balance. Don't judge. |
