Two Hearted Ale
This is a great beer and the clone is perfect if done right. I had a little trouble with the spreadsheet so bear with me. All notes will be made (HOPEFULLY.)
Brewer: | Bell's | Email: | josephgraunstadt@hotmail.com
Beer: | Two Hearted Ale | Style: | India Pale Ale
Type: | Extract w/grain | Size: | 5 gallons
Color: |
|
Bitterness: | 23 IBU | |||||
OG: | 1.060 | FG: | 1.008 | |||||
Alcohol: | 6.7% v/v (5.2% w/w)
Grain: | .5 lb. Belgian aromatic .5 lb. American crystal 10L .5 lb. Dextrine malt (Cara-Pils) |
|||||||
Steep: | Steep specialty grains in 3 gal. of water at 150 deg. for 45 min.
Boil: | 90 minutes | SG 1.099 | 3 gallons
7.5 lb. Light malt extract
Add syrup and boil for 30 min. Add bittering hops. Boil for 40 more min. add flavor hops and 1tsp. irish moss. Boil 15 min. and add aroma hops. Cool to 70 deg., pitch yeast. (Because of the large boil off I ended up with 4 gallons at the correct gravity. I used 9lbs. of syrup to compensate in the next batch and it turned out OK)
Hops: | .75 oz. Centennial (10.5% AA, 60 min.) .5 oz. Centennial (10.5% AA, 15 min.) 1.5 oz. Centennial (aroma) |
|||||||
Yeast: | Wyeast 1056 (American Ale)
Log: | 7-10 days in the primary, then rack. I used 1.25 oz. of Centenial to dry hop because that's what I had left. Wait one week then bottle with 3/4 cup priming sugar.
Tasting: | I think it's exact. Two Hearted is a crisp very hoppy 7% alcohol IPA. You either love it or you hate it, ENJOY. |
