Private Reserve IPA

This is one of my personal favorite beers. It's malty and very nicely
hopped. The aroma is fantastic thanks to dry-hopping. A very well
balanced beer that was excellent within 2 weeks of bottling but is
really beautiful after 4-6 weeks (even better after 2 months if you
wait for it). I'll be brewing this one over and over again!

Brewer: funsoul Email: -
Beer: Private Reserve IPA Style: India Pale Ale
Type: Extract w/grain Size: 5.5 gallons
Color:
10 HCU (~7 SRM)
Bitterness: 47 IBU
OG: 1.066 FG: 1.012
Alcohol: 7.0% v/v (5.5% w/w)
Water: I used bottled water as in my area the iron levels vary tremendously.
Grain: 8 oz. British Munich
8 oz. Dextrine malt (Cara-Pils)
Steep: Placed grains in a muslin bag. Just before the water started to boil,
shut off heat and covered/steeped for 15 minutes. Sparged with approx.
1/2 gallon of very hot water.
Boil: 60 minutes SG 1.091 4 gallons
4 lb. Light malt extract
3 lb. 8 oz. Light dry malt extract
1 lb. Belgian candi sugar
Added 1 tsp. Irish Moss 15 minutes prior to the end of the boil.
Hops: 1 oz. Eroica (10.8% AA, 60 min.)
.5 oz. Galena (13.4% AA, 60 min.)
.5 oz. Cascade (5.4% AA, 15 min.)
.5 oz. Tettnanger (4.7% AA, 15 min.)
.5 oz. Cascade (aroma)
.5 oz. Galena (aroma)
.5 oz. Tettnanger (aroma)
Yeast: I used slurry from a prior batch of ale. The original yeast pitched was
Wyeast American.
Log: primary fermentation: 6 days
secondary fermentation: 2 weeks
dry hopped with 1/2 oz. Cascade, 1/2 oz. Tettnang
Carbonation: primed with 2/3 cup light brown sugar
Tasting: Ohhhh...absolutely DELICIOUS!!! If I would change anything at all,
maybe bring the beer up to 50-55 IBU's (I'm such a hophead!). But
honestly...this is one of the best beers I've made and reviews from
others are fantastic.
