Hope and Pray IPA

A nice strong ale. Could be a bit more hoppy.

Beer: Hope and Pray IPA Style: India Pale Ale
Type: Extract w/grain Size: 5 gallons
Color:
20 HCU (~12 SRM)
Bitterness: 36 IBU
OG: 1.068 FG: 1.018
Alcohol: 6.5% v/v (5.1% w/w)
Water: Reverse osmosis drinking water used for the brew.
Grain: 8 oz. American crystal 40L
2 oz. Flaked barley
Steep: Steeped 40°L crystal malt (coarsely cracked) and 2 oz. flaked barley
in 1 gallon of water at 170°F for 15 minutes in a small pot. Strained
grains out and added liquid to brewing vessel (5 gal stainless steel)
and rinsed grains with additional 1 gallon boiling water.
Boil: 60 minutes SG 1.098 3.5 gallons
6 lb. Light malt extract
3 lb. Amber malt extract
Flaked barley used to aid in head retention.
Hops: 2 oz. Cascade (5.8% AA, 60 min.)
1 oz. Kent Goldings (5% AA, 15 min.)
1 oz. Willamette (4.5% AA, 15 min.)
1 oz. Kent Goldings (aroma)
Yeast: Wyeast 1098 (British ale) with no starter.
Log: 7 days in primary, racked to secondary with 1 oz. Kent Goldings. 2
weeks in seconday, aged 2 additional weeks in bottle.
Carbonation: Batch primed with 3/4 cup corn sugar.
Tasting: Next time I'd up the A.A.% a bit to get the bitterness into the 50-60
IBU range.
