Angus IPA II
This is my first all grain brew. I am using the Northern Brewer two igloo cooler system for HLT and MT and Blickman boilermaker pot as brew kettle. I am racking to carboy through a Therminator chiller and inline thermometer. Racked at 70°F exactly!

Heat 5 gal of water to 162°F for the mash. Used 4.25 gal. According to my other thermometer the mash was only at 140°F so I added about another 0.75 gal of boiling to bring it up. Still only got to about 145°F. Let sit for 60 minutes. Heat 4.75 gal of water to 172°F for sparge. Heat 2 gal of water to 180°F and added for ten minutes for sacch rest. Then sparged to boil kettle. |

Log: | Brew date: 4/9/2011 First all grain brew. Based on OG of 1.040 at 65°F instead of 1.063. I obviously didn't get the mash efficiency I should have. Due to winding up with 7.25 gallons in brew kettle (boiled down to 6.24 - 6.5 gal)? Due to too low of sparge and mash? |
