My First Belgian Golden Strong brewed 11/26/16. Will add 10 gal. to Dennis Tsonis's oak barrel in Flagstaff.

Mash: | 59% efficiency | |||||||
Heat hot liquor to 158°F & hold mash at 148°F for 60 minutes or until conversion. Mash out at 168°F. Added 1 teaspoon Burton Water Salts at end of mash. | ||||||||
Boil: | 120 minutes | SG 1.053 | 14 gallons | |||||
4 lb. Cane sugar | ||||||||
Add 4 lbs. of cane sugar at 15 min. in boil along with 1 tablespoon of Irish Moss. | ||||||||
Hops: | 3 oz. US Goldings (5.7% AA, 90 min.) 2 oz. Styrian Golding (4% AA, 60 min.) 1 oz. Saaz (aroma) |

Yeast: | 1600 ml. starter of White Labs WLP570 Belgian Golden Ale. | |||||||
Log: | Fermenting at 62°F until 1.009 FG | |||||||
Tasting: | Efficiency was very low, either got shorted on grain or original recipe was incorrect. Had to boil for 2 hours just to get to 1.074, was shooting for 1.085 & 12 gallons. |
