Almost Foster's Lager
I tweaked this from a clone recipe I got from a friend. I like it better than the original.
Brewer: | Tim C. | Email: | tclarkrph@earthlink.net
Beer: | Almost Foster's Lager | Style: | American Lager
Type: | All grain | Size: | 5.0 gallons
Color: |
|
Bitterness: | 23 IBU | |||||
OG: | 1.049 | FG: | 1.009 | |||||

I mash in a cooler. Add grain to 1.75 gallons of 146 degree water and rest for 30 minutes. Then add 1.25 gallons of boiling water to raise temperature to 150 degrees for another 60 minutes or until conversion. Sparge with 170 degree water to get final volume of 6 gallons.
Boil: | 60 minutes | SG 1.041 | 6.0 gallons
Hops: | 1.5 oz. Hallertauer Hersbrucker (2.5% AA, 60 min.) 0.25 oz. Hallertauer Hersbrucker (2.5% AA, 30 min.) 0.25 oz. Hallertauer Hersbrucker (2.5% AA, 15 min.) 0.5 oz. Styrian Goldings (4.5% AA, 15 min.) |
|||||||
Yeast: | Wyeast 2007 with a good starter.
Log: | Ferment in primary at about 60 degrees for 5 to 7 days. Rack in secondary and age another 14 to 21 days at 42 to 52 degrees. I chill to around 35 degrees for one week prior to bottling.
Carbonation: | 0.75 cup corn sugar at bottling.
Tasting: | A bit heavier than the orginal. Use a good starter otherwise there will be a lag to get it going. |
