Angus IPA
I left all my equipment and brewing behind when I moved to CO from CA in 2000. I just bought new equipment and this is my first brew with it. Angus, my best friend and Aussie Shepherd died of cancer about a month ago so I'm dedicating this beer to him. I plan to continually tweak this recipe until it is perfect (for me).

Water: | Used 6.5 gallons of tap water (1.5 for mash/sparge, 5 for boil) left out overnight in the boil kettle to get chlorine to dissapate. Added 1 tsp gypsum to the water. This boiled down to 5 gallons of finished wort.
Grain: | 7.8 oz. American crystal 40L 3.9 oz. American crystal 75L 7.8 oz. Dextrine malt (Cara-Pils) |

Steep: | Put grain in pot and added warmed water and let sit for 45 minutes in an unheated oven. Average temp was 170 F (was shooting for 130 F). Sparged with 150 F water. I only had a small strainer so broke the grain into small batches and sparged each with 4-5 cups of water.

6.78 lb. Light malt extract

Yeast: | Wyeast 1056 liquid American Ale yeast. I popped the packet the night before (12 hrs prior to boil). Yeast was 3-4 weeks from packaging date.
Log: | First brewed 3/3/07. Racked into 6.5 gal glass carboy and set in room in basement with no sunlight. Thermometer on fermenter says 61 F. Good yeast activity after about 24 hrs, really good in day 2.
Carbonation: | Planning to keg and force CO2 carbonate per standard. More on this when I do it.
Tasting: | tbd. FYI: Final gravity is anticipated. I will adjust when beer is complete and add tasting notes. |
