Dark Racoon

Nice dark chocolate beer. Has a strong StarBucks coffee taste to it. Went over very well.

Brewer: Tim Patterson Email: tapmcse@gmail.com
Beer: Dark Racoon Style: Brown Porter

69 HCU (~27 SRM)

Alcohol: 5.5% v/v (4.3% w/w)
Water: I use either water purified at grocery store or through home Brita system. Also used 2 SP Gypsum.
Grain: 8 oz. American chocolate
8 oz. Roasted barley
Steep: 30 minute steep at 160-170°F.
Boil: 60 minutes SG 1.136 2 gallons
3 lb. Light dry malt extract
3 lb. Honey
45 mins with hops + 10 mins with 1TSP Irish Moss + 5 mins with aroma hops = 60 mins.
Hops: 1.5 oz. Northern Brewer (8% AA, 60 min.)
.5 oz. Northern Brewer (aroma)
Yeast: BrewFerm Lager yeast standard starter.
Carbonation: 2.2 volumes Keg: 8.6 psi @ 38°F
I use quick carbonation method of rolling keg on my knees @ 28PSI. Start with 5 minutes then taste. May have to go as long as 10 minutes of rolling.
Tasting: I just made this for the second time and added 4oz of ground French Vanilla cofffee beans. Not sure if that was a good idea, but will post here one way or another.
