Beer: | Simple Easy Drinker | Style: | American Pale Ale
Type: | All grain | Size: | 5 gallons
Color: |
|
Bitterness: | 15 IBU | |||||
OG: | 1.025 | FG: | 1.005 | |||||
Alcohol: | 2.6% v/v (2.1% w/w)
Water: | No water treatment
Grain: | 4 lb. American 2-row .33 lb. American crystal 40L |
|||||||
Mash: | 80% efficiency | |||||||
The beauty of this recipe is you can mash in something as small as a 6 pack cooler. I mashed at one quart per pound of grain (4.33quarts). Started the mash at 156F° and ended at 152F° .
Boil: | 45 minutes | SG 1.032 | 4 gallons
Added Irish Moss at 15 minutes left in the boil
Hops: | .25 oz. Centennial (10.5% AA, 45 min.) .25 oz. Saaz (3.75% AA, 30 min.) .25 oz. Saaz (3.75% AA, 15 min.) |
|||||||
Yeast: | I tried the new Wyeast XL pack of tried and true American Ale #1056
Log: | Fermented at 69°F for 3 days. Much above 70° F and I find that #1056 and most other Ale yeasts give a good bit more yeasty flavor that I don't care for. Racked to Secondary for 3 days. Kegged in mini-kegs with DME for priming.
Carbonation: | I prefer to add DME rather than Corn Sugar because I feel it gives better mouthfeel with the smaller bubbles it forms and also a creamier head.
Tasting: | This is just plain old BEER. Nothing special, but also nothing is withheld. It will stand the test of time with any of the light beers out there and it cost me less than $10 to brew 5 gallons. |
