Bitterness: | 12 IBU | |||||
OG: | 1.055 | FG: | 1.010 | |||||
Alcohol: | 5.8% v/v (4.6% w/w)
Water: | Local grocery store's spring water
Grain: | 8 oz. Wheat malt 8 oz. American crystal 20L |
|||||||
Steep: | I heat my water to 160°, add the grains and place the pot into my preheated oven for 30 minutes. Steep the grains along with 45oz of canned pumpkin (not pumpkin pie filling).
Boil: | 60 minutes | SG 1.110 | 2.5 gallons
3.8 lb. Light dry malt extract 1.9 lb. Amber dry malt extract 4.0 oz. Brown sugar |
||||||||
Round up your extract amounts. I'm accounting for the amount that always sticks to the bags. Add 1 tsp of Irish Moss with 15 minutes remaining. Add 1 tbls of vanilla, 1 tsp cinnamon, 1/2 tsp nutmeg, 1/4 tsp allspice and 1/4 tsp ginger at end of boil. |
||||||||
Hops: | 1.00 oz. Cascade (5% AA, 60 min.) 0.5 oz. Liberty (4% AA, 15 min.) .5 oz. Liberty (aroma) |
|||||||
Yeast: | Whites Lab California Ale WLP001
Log: | Primed with 4.25oz of brown sugar Updated amounts to account for loss during extract addition. Equaled gravity reading at racking. Added another 1 tbls of vanilla, 1 tsp cinnamon, 1/2 tsp nutmeg, 1/4 tsp allspice and 1/4 tsp ginger just before bottling. |
|||||||
Tasting: | Tasted at racking after 1 week. Rather bitter and not impressed with spice. Not bad for a 1st attempt. Could use a little more of everything (spices and pumpkin). Enjoyed a bottle 1 month later. Not sure I need to add more spices. Yum! |
