2001 Barley Wine
The first Barley wine that I have produced
Probably the last judging from the IBU content!!

Grain: | 7 lb. 12 oz. British pale 2 oz. Wheat malt 13.5 oz. British crystal 95-115L 2.75 oz. Flaked corn |

Mash: | 80% efficiency | |||||||
Grist mixed with 8.5 ltrs of treated liquor, temperature maintained for 3 hours then sparged slowly to collect 3.25 uk gallons. | ||||||||
Boil: | 90 minutes | SG 1.069 | 3.25 Imp. gal. | |||||
Irish moss introduced 60 minutes into the boil and late add hops 15 minutes from the ned of boil. Allowed to rest after for 15 minutes before running off. Boiled to reduce volume to 2 gallons |

Yeast: | Fowles Nottingham Strain at outset - after racking at the 1/4 stage Varietal C wine Yeast introduced. | |||||||
Log: | Racked after gravity dropped to 1/4 less 2 ie 1025 left under airlock in demijohn for 3 monthts then bottled into nips. Barely drinkable after 9 months but I have the patience of a saint!! so should keep for another 3 years or so. |
