Hefeweizen

I brewed this beer so I could have a lighter, more refrshing beer after mowing the lawn or other summer activities.

Brewer: Copper Dog Brewery Email: -
Beer: Hefeweizen Style: Weizen/Weissbier
Type: Partial mash Size: 5 gallons
Color:
6 HCU (~5 SRM)
Bitterness: 15 IBU
OG: 1.046 FG: 1.008
Alcohol: 4.9% v/v (3.8% w/w)
Water: Used bottled spring water.
Grain: 2 lb. American 2-row
1 lb. Wheat malt
8 oz. American crystal 20L
8 oz. Dextrine malt (Cara-Pils)
Mash: 70% efficiency
Added grist to 5 quarts of 164° strike water. Temp was a bit low (below 150° ) so I added 2- quarts of 200° water. Mashed at 152° for 1.5 hours. Sparged with 2- gallons of 170° water and collected 3- gallons of wort. Actual efficiency was 70%.
Boil: 60 minutes SG 1.076 3 gallons
2 lb. Light dry malt extract
1 lb. Wheat extract
Added 1- teaspoon irish moss for last 15 minutes. I don't know why I did this considering the beer style.
Hops: 0.93 oz. Tettnanger (5.3% AA, 60 min.)
.5 oz. Tettnanger (aroma)
Yeast: Used a tube of Wyeast 3068 Weihenstephan Weizen Yeast to fit the desired style.
