Pantry Mystery

I decided to make something with what I had left in the pantry, lets see how it turns out.

Brewer: Fab Email: -
Beer: Pantry Mystery Style: Belgian Strong Ale
Type: Extract w/grain Size: 2 gallons
Color:
26 HCU (~14 SRM)
Bitterness: 37 IBU
OG: 1.079 FG: 1.012
Alcohol: 8.6% v/v (6.8% w/w)
Grain: 100g American 2-row
100g Dextrine malt (Cara-Pils)
100g Belgian CaraMunich
100g Belgian CaraVienne
100g Oats (raw)
Steep: 30 minutes at 155°F
Boil: 30 minutes SG 1.158 1 gallons
1kg Light malt extract
.5kg Amber malt extract
.25kg Corn sugar
Added 2 oz of vanilla extract with boil, sustain rolling boil for 2-3 minutes
Hops: 21g Northern Brewer (8.5% AA, 60 min.)
21g Spalt (6.75% AA, 30 min.)
Yeast: Dry Munton
Log: Brewed 8/16/08: Total Brw time: 2 hours 30 minutes
Bottled 8/23/08
Tasting: 8/31/08: When 1st poured it sustains a cloudy caramel color. The carbonation is lively with a a nice head. The cloudiness is an attribute from the steeping of oats. The 1st sniff of the brew has a fruity bubbalicious scent. The taste is overwhelming with so many different characteristics, the best way to describe would be a semi-sweet caramel flavor with a slightly bitter after taste. A worthy beverage that makes you want to have more then one so you can try to distinguish the flavors, definitely a Pantry Mystery.
