Ben's Crude Ale

Nice chocolatey dark beer, not too bitter, not too sweet.
It is called 'Crude' because of the color.

Type: Extract w/grain Size: 6 gallons
Color:
64 HCU (~26 SRM)
Bitterness: 23 IBU
OG: 1.043 FG: 1.016
Alcohol: 3.5% v/v (2.8% w/w)
Water: LA County tap. with 1 tsp. gypsum.
Grain: 1 lb. American crystal 120L
Steep: Steep grains in 2 quarts water warm to 160° F and let rest for 45 minutes. Sparge with 2 quarts water that has been heated to 160° F.
Boil: 60 minutes SG 1.074 3.5 gallons
6.6 lb. Dark malt extract
Add 2.7 Gallons to the sparge for a 3.5 Gallon boil.

1 tsp Irish Moss in last 20 minutes of boil.
Hops: .5 oz. Northern Brewer (8.5% AA, 60 min.)
.75 oz. Northern Brewer (8.5% AA, 30 min.)
.25 oz. Willamette (aroma)
Yeast: WYeast 1318 London III pitched from the tube.
Log: Primary ferment 4 days @ 70° F
Secondary ferment 1 week @ 70° F
Bottle conditioned 2 weeks
Carbonation: 3/4 cup Brewers Sugar for bottling
Tasting: This is a smooth dark beer with a chocolate finish. A touch on the heavy side, so it is good after dinner.
