Harley's Summer Ale

This is to be a nice easy drinking summer "lawnmower" beer.

Brewer: Harlan Nilsen Email: hnilsen@nebi.com
Beer: Harley's Summer Ale Style: Cream Ale
Type: All grain Size: 5.5 gallons
Color:
3 HCU (~3 SRM)
Bitterness: 20 IBU
OG: 1.050 FG: 1.008
Alcohol: 5.4% v/v (4.2% w/w)
Water: The water I will use is 1/2 R.O. water and 1/2 City water which will
be charcoal filtered to remove the chlorine. It will be treated with
1/4 oz. Calcium Chloride to 10 gallons of water. Of course you will
want to know the make-up of your water before doing this.
Grain: 8 lb. American 2-row
.5 lb. Dextrine malt (Cara-Pils)
2 lb. Corn (raw)
Mash: 70% efficiency
Mash will be at 150 deg. F. and the time will be approximately
60 min. or until an iodine test shows complete conversion. This
one may mash out quicker than this.
Boil: 60 minutes SG 1.042 6.5 gallons
.5 tsp. Irish Moss in boil 15 minutes.
Hops: 1.02 oz. Cascade (5.6% AA, 15 min.)
1.36 oz. Crystal (4.6% AA, 15 min.)
Yeast: The yeast will be Wyeast 1056 American Ale which will be the 4th generation for this yeast, however it is producing a very clean
product. I will use at least a 2 qt. starter.
